Year and Make of your Happier Camper?

HC1, I think it’s a 2018 or ’19

What’s your tow vehicle?

Toyota Highlander

Why did you buy a Happier Camper?

So, I had originally wanted a teardrop camper and somehow, I stumbled on a review of the HC1 and the rest is history. I kept trying to look at other options that were maybe a little cheaper, but the heart wants what the heart wants. I LOVED the rear hatch, the modular potential and how freaking cute it was. I also liked how light was.

Tell us about your camper!

We bought Mikey used from a guy in the Bay Area and received it at the very beginning of the pandemic and it’s without doubt been our saving grace of 2020. Before we actually took it out, we would hang out in it in our driveway. And while it sounds silly, hanging out somewhere that wasn’t inside our house was just what we needed!

Mikey is orange and so we decided that it should be named after Michelangelo, the orange-masked Ninja Turtle.

What are your favorite HC features?

I love how light it is and the ability to easily change up the inside if we want to. But if I’m being honest, I really love how freaking cute it is. It’s also incredible functional for our needs. We do all our cooking and most of our hanging outside, but I wanted something where we could all sleep comfortable and store all our crap. And this fit the bill. The rear hatch is also incredible handy!

Best camping trip you’ve taken with your Happier Camper?

Gosh, this is a hard one. I think my favorite camping trip was a trip we took to Vallecito Lake this summer. It was just my husband and son so we got a lot of quality time together. We made campfire Cubanos, painted rocks and fished. It was a really perfect trip and I can’t wait to go back.

What’s your next planned camping trip?

Eeeck. Not sure yet! It’s cold here so I’m trying to plot a trip to the City of Rocks in southern New Mexico but state parks are closed for camping right now. Our next trip will honestly probably be closer to March and if we’re keeping it easy we’ll head to Pecos!

What camping destination is on your bucket list?

Not sure if this is destination specifically but I’d like to take a multi-state/multi-week trip. Head up to Colorado, through Utah maybe? I hear its beautiful there.

Any advice for new owners?

Be patient. You’ll encounter hiccups. Not only with your camper, but with your trip. But that doesn’t mean your trip is ruined. Try not to buy all the things before or as soon as you get your camper… a lot if you won’t end up using or needing. I would say get some essentials, then take a trip, figure out what you think would make your trip more comfortable and make a list. Actually, make that a running list… every trip you’ll probably think of something else. But you don’t, and you shouldn’t, buy it all at once.

And if you haven’t finalized your order yet, get the gray cubes. The white ones get SO dirty. The sink cube is great! I wish I had the exterior bar. And solar is WHERE its at.
